Our story

Background of the foundation

The Grace Nartey Memorial Foundation is an organization that aims at bridging the educational gap in Ghana by making quality basic education accessible to young brilliant but orphaned or less privileged children. The Foundation believes that every child deserves the right to education and a chance to a brighter future.

The Grace Nartey Memorial Foundation, born out of the love and compassion of a mother to cater for children who were either orphaned or came from less privileged homes is now an established organization that seeks to provide free and quality basic education to the needy, poor and vulnerable in society.

The works of Madam Grace Nartey started in the year 1979 when six (6) children knocked on her door one fateful day. That was the year she also started her school, Cosmos. As a pupil teacher herself, Madam Grace took these young ones in and not only did she train them academically, she also nurtured them with the fear of God and trained them to be socially and morally responsible people in society.

The foundation has been in existence since the establishment of Cosmos Basic School but was officially launched in 2020 on the 40th anniversary celebration of the school. Today, the foundation operates as an independent body from the school with the sole aim of providing young bright minds from less privileged backgrounds the opportunity to access free quality basic education.

— About madam grace nartey

Madam Grace Nartey (born in the Eastern Region of Ghana, June 12, 1930) was the prime mover of Cosmos School, Lapaz New Market, Accra. She was also the pioneer and one of the leading founding members of the ever-growing Mount Sinai Methodist church within the Lapaz District Area. She was an epitome of positive influence for God and an educationist with years of experience in communication, public relations, data collection, management and analysis, cultural competence, nutrition counseling, research methodology, community assessment as well as child growth and development.

— teaching career

She taught in various renowned schools herself for about 21 years with St. Anthony, Ann’s Preparatory, she boasted of Cosmos Schools, an educational institution with fine, state-of-the-art facilities of desirable and respectable proportions. She was a true, selfless leader who impacted the lives of many children through the virtues of Godliness, Discipline and Excellence, the motto of Cosmos school. She was admired by both young and old for her generous spirit and that by far has endeared her to all community folks and the student population.

— leadership and advocacy

Being a strong advocate for women of God and having contributed significantly in the mission and exploits of both local and international organizations, she successfully built an empire of believers in God who are progressing quite well in numerous career fields in medicine, architecture, science, computer and leadership, education and social services, trades and transportation management, business and finance.

She resolutely believed in the scriptures and would unequivocally recount the words of Proverbs 3:5-6 which teaches us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and never lean on our way of understanding. For obvious reasons, relying on the scriptures and God has brought Cosmos School and the Grace Nartey Memorial Foundation to this enviable height as we boast of being a beacon of hope and enlightenment to people from all walks of life.

A child without education is like a bird without wings.
– Tibetan proverb.
